How much does a DBS Check cost?
When applying for a DBS check through an Umbrella Body, the total cost typically includes two parts.
The first part is the fixed fee charged by the Disclosure and Barring Service. This cost remains the same regardless of how many applications are submitted. The fee is £21.50 for a Standard Check £49.50 for an Enhanced DBS check, including checks with the Adults’ and/or Children’s Barred Lists.
The second part is the administrative fee charged by the Umbrella Body for handling the application. This fee can vary depending on the number of checks being processed. At CRBonline, admin fees start from £4.00 per application.
Do Employers or Employees pay for DBS Checks?
There are no established regulations regarding who should bear the cost of DBS checks in employment. It is up to each employer to decide whether they will cover the fee themselves or require the employee to pay.
CRBonline provides a feature that enables employers to pass the DBS check fee directly to the applicant. This means the applicant can make the payment through their own account on the platform, removing the need for the employer to pay first and recover the cost later.
My employees pay for their DBS, can you charge them directly?
Yes!
One of our unique features is that you can allocate the invoice directly to your Applicant.
They are then notified, and have to log into their own side of the platform to pay.
This negates the need for Organisations to pay and then recover the payment.
Can I buy credits?
Yes, there is a pre-pay credit feature.
Especially useful when you have staff that need to send off DBS Checks, but they don’t have access to company finance tools.
Does VAT Apply to a DBS Check?
The base fee is VAT exempt, which means there is no VAT applied at all.
However, the admin fee that umbrella organisations charge does attract VAT.
The invoice will split these two separate fees up and show the VAT applicable, so it is clear to see.
Can I get a bulk discount?
The DBS Base fee, (£21.50 for Standard DBS Check, £49.50 for Enhanced DBS Check) is set by Disclosure & Barring Service, and there are no discounts. Even if you process hundreds of thousands of DBS Checks per year, the price is the same.
The admin fee charged by CRBonline is subject to volume discouts. We offer our most competitive rates to businesses that are likely to use the services for an extended period.
Can I pay extra for a fast track DBS Check?
No fast track service is available for DBS checks. The Disclosure and Barring Service handles all applications using the same standard process.
Once an application has been submitted to the Disclosure and Barring Service, neither CRBonline nor any other Umbrella Body can influence how quickly it is completed. However, what can be done is to ensure that the process runs as efficiently as possible. CRBonline supports this by offering a user-friendly platform that helps reduce applicant mistakes and makes the application process clear and straightforward.
